The aim of the Association of Friends of the Saint Mary Magdalene Basilica is to ensure the outreach and protection of the architectural, cultural and religious heritage of the monumental ensemble of Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume.
Created at the initiative of Michel Roy during the 1995 seventh centenary commemoration of the construction of the Basilica-Royal Convent complex, it is composed of 400 members from Saint-Maximin, France and the world at large.
From that date to the end of 2011, the Association has invested more than 200,000 euros in various beautifying projects of the Basilica. By the same token, it has pledged 50,000 euros toward the realization of twelve books, a DVD and six annual reviews, all dedicated to the Basilica.
With the agreement of the municipality, proprietor of the monument, and the assigned religious authorities, it has opened a reception area in the Basilica. Totally renovated in 2009, it welcomes visitors, informs them and places books, CDs and religious articles at their disposal. Any profits herein derived are exclusively set aside for projects decided upon by the Association.
Long maintained at 20 euros per member, annual dues have been increased to 25 euros for the 2011-2012 season ; they remain fixed at 50 euros for benefactors. Dues and donations entitle donors to the annual review and are tax deductible according to current tax legislation.
